Who am I?
My aim is to always strive to be as authentically me as I possibly can. Trust me, this can definitely prove to be a challenge sometimes and does not happen overnight. It is still something that I struggle with and strive to improve every single day. This is why I created this little motto for myself (below). It acts as a reminder of how I aim to live my life, “as a humble student of impossible dreams, whereby authenticity holds the key to innovation.”
Growing up, I have always loved this quote, by Audrey Hepburn, which goes a little something like this…
“Nothing is Impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m Possible!'”
–Audrey Hepburn
This quote has stayed with me for as long as I can remember because I resonated with it so much. Perhaps you could say that I was quite delusional as a child, in that I truly believed that all dreams were possible and no one could tell me otherwise. However, delusional or not, this belief has stayed with me to this very day, and no matter what the tribulations, I still believe in it with all my heart.
I added the part of, “humble student,” because that is who I will always strive to be. I comfort myself by acknowledging that I cannot possibly know all and that there will always be something new to learn. Because, if not, imagine how boring life would be! Therefore, it is a reminder to myself that I will always be a humble student with much to learn and I should conduct myself as such, not as a way to dumb down my intelligence but rather to be intelligent enough to know when to listen and when to speak.
The part “whereby authenticity holds the key to innovation,” was added because this is what I have seen and truly believe to be true. You cannot create something new if you copy someone else. Therefore, only by being authentically yourself can you create something unique and magical. Because no one else can be YOU. So, do not look at your peers or what other people are doing and try to do the same, you will never be satisfied because you are going against your nature and pushing aside your GIFT to the world. Be yourself because the world would be so much better for it, do not let us miss out on your MAGICAL GIFT.
Rebranding Myself
The reason I created Rebranding Myself is because of my love of writing. Writing has always been my outlet for self-expression and creativity and I wanted a space where all my thoughts could reside. I remember having such a rush when I first got published in my faculty’s magazine because it was the first time someone had read my work and thought it was good enough to be seen by a greater audience. However, as much as I enjoyed writing for my faculty’s magazine and it provided me with the confidence I needed at the time, I also felt creatively confined by themes and guidelines. Hence, Rebranding Myself.
For me, Rebranding Myself is about freedom of self-expression, while also representing a world of limitless creativity. The name itself, Rebranding Myself, came from my journey towards personal growth and my need to better myself. I am constantly rebranding myself and improving in all aspects of my life and I wanted Rebranding Myself to demonstrate that.
I remember feeling so lost after high school that I tried to grasp onto the person I was back then instead of looking forward because I was so afraid of the road ahead. However, my constant need to look back and hold onto my high school self, who I then believed had her whole world figured out only hindered the possibility of the person I could become. Now having gone through the personal growth and development, I realised that I was not my complete authentic self in high school but I was only missing it because it was the only version of myself that I knew. Now that I have given myself the grace to explore who I am without the mask I have been wearing for so long, I never want to go back to the person I was back in high school. So, do not be afraid of the restlessness or fear you may feel, change is a good thing and you will come out of it feeling so grateful that you went on this journey. You are not meant to live in the past and remain the same, this will only prevent you from the opportunity to discover the person you truly are within.
I chose the name, Rebranding Myself, because it serves as a reminder to me, to always aim to evolve and welcome self-exploration.
My mission is for you to feel that you are not alone through Rebranding Myself. The beauty of having an audience read your written thoughts is that it creates a space for commonality and community, as more often than not we are more the same than we are different.
The vision for Rebranding Myself is to act as a safe creative space that allows for freedom of self-exploration without limits, guidelines, or any restraints on expression. The root of Rebranding Myself is to embrace authenticity.
